Observations:

July 2015 – The season after being selected 124th by the Oilers, Bear came back to the Seattle Thunderbirds a lot more confident and physically fit. He became a top WHL defenseman and finished the year fifth in WHL defenseman scoring with 65 points (19G, 46A) in 69 games, good enough to be placed on the Western Conference first-all star team. In the playoffs, Ethan was a crucial part of the Seattle Thunderbirds and helped lead them to the WHL final (Ed Chynoweth Cup). Bear finished atop playoff scoring for all defenseman. On July 2, he signed his entry-level deal with the Oilers. Brayden Sully

June 2015 - Bear was drafted 30-50 slots later than expected by the Edmonton Oilers. It was a bit of a surprise, but his lack of outstanding traits or offensive ability probably was the reason for the drop. He is a better prospect than most people drafted in his slot, but still doesn't have a ton of fantsay upside. Austin Wallace

June 2015 – Bear has had a steady climb up the rankings this year thanks to his complete and steady game. Bear is a heady player who displays excellent poise with the puck. Bear is a versatile defender and is effective on both the penalty kill and powerplay. His game is very reminiscent of Johnny Oduya. He isn’t elite in any aspect however he has no glaring weaknesses either. He projects as a decent middle paring defenceman who can play in any situation. While he isn’t likely to put up big points at the NHL level he could be a decent secondary option. Donesh Mazloum

Fantasy Outlook: B

A solid two-way defender with a bomb from the point, lots of offensive potential and plays a real Duncan Keith-type game.A solid if unspectacular defender, Bear has modest offensive potential.
