March 2017 - Kunin’s season ended with a quick playoff exit against Ohio State University this weekend as Wisconsin lost both games by a combined score of 8-2. On the bright side, Kunin scored one of those goals to cap off a productive step forward in his young career. It’s unclear whether he will earn himself a contract at the moment as his season was by all accounts relatively similar to his year last year. Breaking 20 goals and improving his points per game by 16% is definitely a step forward, but another year of seasoning for Wisconsin to make a serious run next year might be in the cards for Kunin. An electrifyingly skilled goal scorer captaining his squad at 19-years-old, the outlook seems bright for Kunin to make his mark on Minnesota sooner rather than later. He finished seventh in NCAA scoring among U20 players, and he will will likely be earning himself a pro contract in 2018, if not this summer.

Kunin is undoubtedly skilled and has a natural instinct for finding the back of the net. He will likely slot as a reliable second or third line offensive center that any contending team like Minnesota would need to keep their team well set up under the salary cap. He may not land in a Wild uniform until 2019 after some AHL time similar to Alex Tuch, but when he arrives, he will be a welcome addition. Will Scouch

August 2016 – Luke Kunin hit the ground running the best he could in the development camp given he’s a bit wetter behind the ears than most the others reporting for duty. Contrary to many teenagers at this junction in their development he was very rarely not where he’s suppose to be. Kunin is already showing glimpses of an impressive game on the offensive end but blended into the background a bit on defense. Still, a pleasant surprise overall and gives the Wild faithful something to look forward to when he makes the big jump. Edric Joseph

June 2016 –Kunin scored nearly a point per game pace in his draft year with Wisconsin and finished strong with nine goals in his final ten games. . He shows promise as a terrific source of secondary scoring but every so often will tease a phenomenal shot. He’s got a good motor whether he has the puck on his stick or if he’s engaging in a board battle. Blessed with skill, smarts and a work ethic to match Kunin is effective on both sides of the puck, brings leadership qualities and can get under opponents skin to boot. Kunin will return for another year of seasoning in the  NCAA.  Edric Joseph
