Observations:

January 2017 – Alan Quine showed enough to Islanders management out of Training Camp to earn a roster spot this season. So far thru 30 games, Quine has contributed 10 points and has been a servicable NHLer. Anytime you lead an AHL team in scoring, you will get a good opportunity to make the NHL. Quine's best attribute is his ability to skate. He has great speed, and at the NHL level this could be effective on an 'energy' line, or on the forecheck. Although he was a proven point producer in the AHL, his projection at the NHL level will be as a depth forward for the time being. Having said that, Quine will still have opportunity to produce offensively because of his speed and ability to get chances off the rush. On a team that can struggle offensively at times, Quine may even be given opportunity to play with more skilled players in the hope that he can be a depth scorer. Kevin Pedersen

July 2016 – Alan Quine signed a two-year, one-way contract with the Islanders on July 13, 2016. By virtue of having played three professional seasons, Quine is no longer exempt from waivers. That means he will likely stick with the Islanders full time in 2016-17. Nevertheless, he will have his work cut out for him gaining ice time on the left side in Brooklyn. Unfortunately, he may end up watching a good deal of games from the press box. That will not be good for his development, or for his fantasy owners. Brent Craswell

May 2016 – Alan Quine had another stellar campaign in the AHL, posting 19 goals and 48 points in 56 games.  That was good for second on the Sound Tigers behind Bracken Kearns, who had five more points in 17 more games.  His work in Bridgeport did not go unnoticed, and he earned a late-season call-up to the big club.  He scored a goal in his first NHL game against the Buffalo Sabres on April 9, 2016. Quine stuck with the team into the playoffs and has quickly earned the trust of Jack Capuano.  He has found himself on John Tavares’ left wing, and has been used both on the power play and on the penalty kill.  Quine scored his first career playoff goal in dramatic fashion, potting a power play marker in double overtime to give the Islanders a 3-2 series lead over Florida.  New York would go on to win the series at home in the next game.   Through eight playoff games, he has posted one goal, four assists and 12 shots on goal.  Quine has the inside track on a roster spot for next season, and could have a big fantasy impact if he can stay linked up with Tavares. – Brent Craswell

Nov 2015 – Quine has been a very good player for the Sound Tigers to start the year. In 14 games he has 14 points, tied for second on the team somehow with Bracken Kearns. The 22 year old, third round selection, has been progressing well in the AHL and if he keeps playing this well he should see some time with the big club soon. He is definitely putting himself back on the fantasy map. Pat Quinn

May 2015 – Quine led Bridgeport in scoring in just his second pro season. The Islanders are a deep team and it is unlikely he will crack the top six, given the competition. But his scoring touch at the pro level should get him a look soon and his future probably lies on the third line. – Dobber

October 2013 – Quine will start his journey in pro hockey in a Sound Tigers jersey. He was part of a 15-player demotion to the AHL farm club as the Islanders narrowed down to 23 players to start the season. Brad Wilson

June 2013- Since the Red Wings opted not to sign Quine before the June 1 deadline he was eligible for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and was picked up by the NY Islanders in the sixth round 166th overall. Since Detroit was already at the limit of 50 players signed and due to Grand Rapids lengthy playoff run they weren’t willing to oust someone already under contract. For a sixth-round pick the NY Islanders are getting great value here and a player with a couple seasons in the AHL for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers could become a solid role player who  kills penalties and potentially even make his way onto a second power player unit in the NHL. This is a player I hate to see go from the Red Wings organization as when Quine finally got to play for a winning team his numbers really reflected his play. However as we all know Detroit is one of the best run franchises and has one of the best eyes for talent so I trust their judgement here. Quine will be a player that I will follow to see how he transitions to the pro game especially now that he will have a chip on his shoulder and a point to prove that Detroit should never have let him go. May 2013- Boy did a change of scenery do wonders for Alan Quine. After consistently posting in the minus column for the woeful Peterborough Petes and Kingston Frontenacs, Quine turned things around playing for the OHL Eastern Conference Champion Belleville Bulls posting a plus-29 rating in only 28 games. Quine clearly showed that when surrounded with a supporting cast he can cause havoc for the opposition. Not only was his plus-29 rating impressive he also saw his points-per-game climb from an even 1.00 with the Petes to a 1.46 with his Hometown Bulls. Quine's regular season success was a big reason Belleville was able to win their conference but he really elevated his game once playoffs came around especially when Belleville needed it most, scoring five goals in the last four games to help the Bulls fight to a game seven against the powerful Barrie Colts. Quine finished up his postseason in a tie for the team lead with eight goals and totals of 8G-7A-15PTS in 17 games played. Look for the quick footed Quine to be in Red Wings camp come next September but eventually make his way to their AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids where he will look to build off his successful campaign in Belleville and continue to develop in to the two way forward Detroit demands. February 2013: Although Alan Quine’s OHL career didn’t get off to the best start, he has really blossomed into a solid prospect for the Detroit Red Wings.  Quine scored just 11 goals in his rookie season with the Kingston Frontenacs, but doubled that production the following season with the Peterborough Petes (22 goals in 12 less games).  In his 2012-13 campaign, the Ottawa native is averaging 1.29 points-per-game, and since his trade from Kingston has been one of the hottest players in the OHL. He has 23 points (five goals, 18 assists) in 12 games for the Belleville Bulls thus far, holding a plus-13 with just four penalty minutes. Quine is a prototypical Red Wings prospect; he’s smart, self-controlled, hard working and is a great distributor of the puck, perfect for a Detroit franchise that has always prided itself on puck-possession.  While Quine has really improved his play away from the puck since his rookie season, he still needs to focus on having a consistent presence in the defensive third if he’s going to crack an NHL lineup in the next few years.  Quine’s work ethic and ability to learn quickly make him a real coach’s player and, again, a great fit for Motown.
