Fantasy Summary

His offensive potential appears limited. A depth centre with size, he’ll need a lot of development to land himself in an NHL role.

April 2018 – After four years in two programs, Peterson finished with 48 points in 108 games, showing little development along the way. While he finished his career with a national collegiate championship, NHL upside appears to be limited at this point for the soon-to-be 23 year old centre. Will Scouch

January 2018 – Peterson is a big centre playing in the Wild’s backyard at Duluth and is in the midst of a make or break season. His upside remains unclear as he has just eight points in 19 games, and is likely in his last year of college. It may be possible that the heavy pivot earns a look an AHL contract, but his production has been less than ideal. The former Mr. Hockey looks as though he has a bit of an uphill battle ahead of him, but size is always an asset. Will Scouch

September 2017 – After a poor 2015-16 season, Peterson bounced back relatively well with a 15 point campaign after transferring to a powerful Minnesota-Duluth team. This is his final year of NHL rights, and he’ll need to continue his bounceback to earn an NHL contract. He’s a big centre who still has upside and Minnesota will have a close eye on him as another player right in their home state. Peterson’s post-transfer improvement is notable, and he’s going to need to continue that pace. Will Scouch

June 2016 – Avery Peterson had a season mired with uncertainty in terms of how far his development has come along. He skated in 14 games with the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks scoring just one point before transferring to Minnesota-Duluth. Due to his transfer to Minnesota-Duluth, he must sit out until January 2017. Only time will tell if the transfer pays off but for now he must bide his time building his body and honing his craft in practices as he’s doubtful to make the Wild roster this fall. Edric Joseph

February 2015 – In his freshman season, Avery Peterson has taken nicely to his new post at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Originally there were concerns with how his success in high school level competitive hockey in Minnesota would translate. He will need to hone his offensive instincts and put on some more size to be able to effectively compete at the next level. The Minnesota Wild have to be pleased with the value they are getting with how they landed the 77th ranked North American skater in the sixth round of the 2013 draft. Through 30 NCAA games in his freshman season, Peterson has 10 goals and 19 points. Edric Joseph
