Observations:

July 2016- After a monster final season of junior (58-76-134), Brendan Shinnimin never lived up to expectations at the next level. His third season of pro, he did show some promise with 47 points in 64 games, getting into 12 games with the Coyotes. This last season though, Shinnimin struggled with injuries never really getting going on a consistent basis. Arizona decided to cut ties with him and he became a unrestricted free agent. Shinnimin signed with Langnau of the NLA (Swiss) and will play overseas for 2016-17. Keith Duggan

 

June 2015- The 2014-15 season was a much better year for Brendan Shinnimin as he improved in all layers of his game. Offensively he crushed his previous career highs with 22 goals and 47 points in 64 games. Shinnimin was rewarded playing 12 games in Arizona, recording his first NHL point. He also had 80 PIMs, showing an agitating side that could be useful at the next level. Even with the improved year Shinnimin still is a borderline prospect, that if he makes it to the NHL full-time it will be a bottom six player that gets the rare point with some PIM's. January 2014- A late addition to the AHL All-Star Game, Brendan Shinnimin fared very well, scoring two goals, an assist, 10 shots and a ton of great chances. A few days later now Shinnimin has been recalled to the Coyotes for a second time this season. In two games earlier this season he was scoreless, averaging 10:57 of ice time. Keith Duggan

 

November 2014- Brendan Shinnimin has been recalled to the Coyotes (November 28th)from the AHL. His play has improved drastically this season, he's second in Portland scoring with 14 points in 19 games, already half the points he scored all of last year. His two-way game has been strong also, as he's been a big reason why the Pirates have started the campaign much better than last season. While he will most likely play on the fourth line, the skilled Shinnimin could see some time on the power play. Keith Duggan

 

October 2014- Shinnimin was a early cut from Arizona Coyotes camp and will report to Portland of the AHL for his third season with the team. Keith Duggan

 

June 2014-With 28 points in 52 games it was another disappointing season for Shinnimin. While the Portland Pirates struggled as a team, if Shinnimin had a better offensive season it could have gone a long way in improving their standings. At this point it looks like he is a longshot to make the NHL. Keith Duggan

 

March 2014 – While 18 points in 32 games isn’t terrible, much more offensive production was expected from Shinnimin in his AHL sophomore year. It was hoped he would create a strong one-two punch at center in Portland with Andy Miele and at times he has, but at other times he has found himself centering the third or fourth line or a healthy scratch.  His development has also been hurt with him missing over a month after taking a head shot from Bridgeport’s Marc Cantin on New Year’s Eve. He does have four points in four games since returning to the lineup on February 16th.  Keith Duggan

 

June, 2013 – Followed up a spectacular overage WHL season with a signing by the Coyotes, a decent training camp and then… struggles in the AHL. Many players have issues adjusting to the pros but as a somewhat undersized player whose grit against teenagers was an asset, this twenty-two year old pro rookie might get less slack. Without any known injuries, he was scratched in two of Portland's three playoff games; though he did get a point in the one game he played. On a positive note, he led the Pirates in games played (74 of 76) and finished sixth in team scoring with 33 points. For many AHL rookies, that is an acceptable total but more will be needed from the undrafted playmaker, especially a defensive improvement which should elevate him from the bottom of the plus/minus ladder (minus-18). – Austin Wallace

 

May 2012 – Finished the season as the league’s leading scorer and was named the WHL Player of the Year for 2011-12. – Zenon Herasymiuk

 

April 2012 – Shinnimin is a smallish, gifted forward with outstanding offensive intangibles. After a strong season as a 19 year old, he took his game to another level, scoring 134 points in 69 games for the Tri-City Americans. The Coyotes subsequently signed him to a contract. He has continued his torrid pace in the playoffs, with eight points in four games so far. He will have to overcome his lack of size and strength to find success at the next level. Fantasy Outlook: C

 

Has a good chance at making the Coyotes for 2015-16, but as a depth forward.
