Observations:

October 2017 – Aittokallio has shifted to the Czech league, where his numbers have slumped slightly from those he put up in Finland last year. He is not longer a legitamate prospect unless he has a major breakout. Hayden Soboleski

February 2017 – Though not stellar like last season, Aittokallio's numbers have been decent again in the Finnish Liiga. He currently sports a 0.911 SV%, which will need to climb a little closer to last year's numbers if he hopes to catch the attention of NHL clubs. Given the precarious Avs goaltender situation caused by Varlamov's season-ending injury, him getting another shot in the AHL shouldn't be out of the question. Hayden Soboleski

September 2016 – Aittokallio finished his bounceback year with a very strong 0.920 SV% in 33 GP for Finland's Karpat. He follwed this up with strong tournament numbers, yet surprisingly did not receive a qualifying offer from the Avalanche, making him a UFA for the time being. He will play in Finland for the 2016-17 season, but if he posts similar numbers again he would gain considerable interest in North America (again). Hayden Soboleski

January 2016 – After a lackluster 2014-15 season in the AHL and ECHL, Aittokallio has bounced back with an excellent 0.918 SV% and 1.99 GAA in 21 starts for Karpat of the FInnish Liiga. A return to North America could be possble next season if he pursues another pro contract. Hayden Soboleski.

August 2015 – Aittokallio has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Avalanche. He may play in the AHL, battling for starts alongside Pickard and newcomer Martin, but given that his contract includes a clause allowing him to play in Europe, this seems to be the most likely outcome to guarantee playing time in the 2015-16 season. Hayden Soboleski

May 2015 – Aittokallio played only 16 games in the 2014-15 season for Lake Erie in the AHL, compiling a record of 7-5-1 with zero shutouts, a GAA of 3.19, and a SV% of 0.900. He was briefly assigned to the ECHL to gain playing time, but in 4 games he put up a GAA of 4.90 and a SV% of 0.823. His numbers took a step backward from last year and he has lost the battle for the AHL crease with Pickard (who played 50 AHL games and was the preferred call-up when injuries arose). With his contract finished, his progress stalled, and others eager to play in Colorado, Aittokallio’s time may be running out with the Avs. Hayden Soboleski

June 2014 – Like Calvin Pickard, Aittokallio just polished off his second full season with Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL. He improved upon his game this season – raising his SV% from .899 to .909, and lowering his GAA from 3.00 to 2.65. Overall however, his record stayed close to the same at 15-15-3, from 14-12-1. Again, like Pickard, Aittokallio is on the last year of his entry-level contract. These two will battle it out next year in the AHL to prove who’s more ready to take the next step in his career.  Chris Bagwell

October 2013- Aittokallio will not be called up to cover any time for Varlamov despite his arrest. Although the investigation is sill on going Varlamov has been permitted to travel with the team and will do so per Avs management. When Aittokallio does get the call up he will do well in the Avs current system but until then he will be spending his time in Lake Erie with the monsters. Andrew Ward

October 2013 – With the arrest of Semyon Varlamov (domestic abuse), it's possible that Aittokallio will see NHL action sooner rather than later, depending on how the case goes. Aittokallio so far has the edge over Calvin Pickard as the No.3 goalie. His upside is probably that of an NHL starter. If he can reach it is the million dollar question. But under the current coaching system, he's set up to do well when he does get NHL starts. – Dobber

April 2013- Sami Aittokallio is set to make his debut with the Avalanche April 11th. Varlamov is injured and the Avs are not longer in the playoff hunt so Aittikallio might see a couple starts before the seasons end. Andrew Ward

February 2013 – Sami Aittokallio recorded two wins and one shootout loss in January posting a stallar .941 save percentage for the month. Aitokallio has a .902 save percentage on the year, respectably, and eleven wins eight losses, and one shootout loss for the season in his first professional stint in the AHL. Andrew Ward

August, 2012 – Sami Aittokallio is one of the best goalie prospects coming out of Finland right now. Aittokallio was Team Finland's starting goaltender in the 2012 World Junior Championship where he attracted attention playing several great games and ended up posting a save percentage of .937. Aittokallio has signed an NHL contract with the Avalanche but it's still unclear whether he will play in the AHL or in Finland this season. Miika Arponen

Fantasy Outlook: C

Still working on technical side of his game back home in Finland, but made big strides in 2015-16.
