Observations:

December 2017 - Tarasov continues his solld run in the MHL with a 2.07 goals against average, placing him in the top ten among qualifiers, and sporting a respectable .914 save percentage while tending net in 22 of Tolpar Ufa's 30 contests. Kevin Wickersham

October 2017 - Thus far Tarasov has emerged from the tumor scare that kept him away from the game all last year to forge an impressive MHL start with Tolpar Ufa, including the 33-team league's fourth-best goals-against average at 1.81 and seventh-best .918 save percentage. Columbus will continue to monitor their recent third round selection from afar and look to bring him overseas a few years up the road. Kevin Wickersham

July 2017 – Tarasov emerged from 2015-16 as one of the world’s top goalie prospects yet dropped in the rankings due to a tumor in his shin, the recovery of which forced him to miss 2016-17. He’s a tall, lanky native of Novokuznetsk as is Jackets’ top goalie Sergei Bobrovsky who ironically grew up idolizing Tarasov’s father Vadim, a ten-year staple in net for Metallurg Novokuznetsk and 1999 Habs’ seventh round selection. Bobrovsky has been instrumental in portraying NHL life (particularly regarding Columbus) for the younger Tarasov. Daniil greatly impressed with a 2.11 GAA and .921 save percentage for Team Russia in the 2016 World Junior Championships and with Tolpar Ufa of the Maritime Hockey League, Russia’s juniors, sporting a .918 regular campaign save percentage and a postseason 1.56 goals-against with a .933 SV%. He’s a few years away from potentially jumping to North America, but can use the time to get back on game ice and perhaps add bulk. Kevin Wickersham

Fantasy Outlook: B-

Has the tools to eventually excel in North American pro ranks. Terrific in prior campaigns, monitor his injury recovery and subsequent performance.
