Observations:

October 2017- It’s looking like the 2011 second rounder is going to be AHL bound for his career unless some massive improvements are quickly made. In the 2015-16 season, the big Czech defenseman put up three goals and 11 assists in 67 games. In the 2016-17 season the Musil managed to have a better year putting up four goals and 10 assists in just 47 games. For the 2017-18 season Musil is now loaned to the Tucson Roadrunners where he has four assists in 13 games. Due to the Oilers organization having a lot of defensive prospect depth like: Caleb Jones, Ethan Bear, and Ziyat Paigin, it will be tough for the Czech defenseman to make it to the NHL. Spencer Pomoty

September 2015 – Musil sits as the seventh defensemen for the Oilers first pre-season double header. It is highly unlikely he makes the big club this year but with a strong showing in pre-season he could be a call-up at some point if injuries strike. He is a safe bet to play in the top four in Bakersfield this season and is still on track to become a solid depth defensemen at the NHL level.  Tyler Thomson

February 2015 – David Musil has been quietly putting together a respectable year with Oklahoma City in his second professional season. Appearing in 43 of the Barons 50 games, Musil has often found himself bouncing between all three defensive pairings. Excellent intelligence in all three zones remains a constant reminder of why Musil was drafted in the second round. Despite the minuscule offensive output (one goal, eight points), his fantasy value exists in the peripheral categories such as hits and penalty minutes. Unless he develops some more aggressive offensive zone play, his ceiling remains as a second/third pairing shut-down player. Musil could find himself battling for a depth position on the Oilers blue-line as early as next year but it seems more realistic that he is given more time to develop at the AHL level. Tyler Thomson

September 2013 – David Musil finished a strong WHL career with 28 goals and 115 points in four seasons with the Vancouver Giants and Edmonton Oil Kings. The Oilers' 2011 second round selection remains a long-term defensive prospect but will have the opportunity to take the next step in his development after Edmonton assigned him to Oklahoma City coming out of their 2013-14 training camp. Musil will need to continue to work on his footwork and puck skills to make the transition to the next level and the AHL's Barons will provide him with lots of ice time. Brendan Ross

November 2012 – After starting the year with the Vancouver Giants, Musil has since been traded to the Edmonton Oil Kings. The Oil Kings are surely going to be a contender this year and the addition of Musil only bolsters their already strong lineup. In 21 games between the two clubs this year, Musil has eight points.  – Zenon Herasymiuk

July 2012 – Has signed his standard three year entry level contract with the Oliers. He will not make the team this year, but will get his feet wet in camp and likely see a bunch of exhibition games. It will be interesting to see how effective he is amongst men and how far away he is. Currently the expectation should be a couple AHL seasons, before breaking the NHL in his early 20s. Jason Banks

April 2012 – The son of former NHL defenseman Frantisek Musil, David looks like he is primed for a long prosperous NHL career. He has the size, smarts, and physical traits to take the fast path to the NHL, but will need to become more confident offensively and work on his skating if he wants to don the orange and blue next year. In 59 games with the Vancouver Giants he has 27 points. He was the anchor of the Czech Republic’s defense at the World Junior Championship, where he shut down some of the best junior aged players all tournament long. Zenon Herasymiuk

Fantasy Outlook: C-

Safe bet to make the NHL as a depth defenseman. Will rack up a lot of hits and PIM.
