Observations:

 

March 2013 – The Bruins are bringing him along slowly, keeping his minutes down. But after 30 solid NHL games, it’s clear that he won’t be sent down and is in the NHL for good. Time to graduate. – Dobber

 

January 2013 – Dougie Hamilton recorded his first career NHL point in just his third game on January 23rd, 2013 versus the New York Rangers. The big rearguard has been skating alongside Zdeno Chara on most shifts and is logging some serious minutes already. Brendan Ross

 

December 2012 – Hamilton was awared with OHL Player of the Month honours for November after posting 21 points (one goal and 20 assists) in 13 contests.  Hamilton won this award four times in the 2011-2012 OHL season.  Brendan Ross

 

December 2012 – Dougie Hamilton was one of six returnees from the 2012 Canadian WJC team invited to take part in Canada’s National Junior Selection camp for the 2013 World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia. Hamilton is the likely candidate to wear Canada’s captaincy for the 2013 World Junior Tournament. Brendan Ross

 

October 2012 – Dougie Hamilton was named to the 2012 Subway Super Series Team OHL Roster slated to compete in a six-game series versus the Russian National Junior Team in November. Brendan Ross

 

October, 2012 – Hamilton leads all OHL d-men in scoring with 11 points. Little question that he’s a Bruin when the lockout is over. Probably for the entire season (however long that is). – Dobber

 

May, 2012 – Hamilton was the recipient of the Post Foods Canada Defenseman of the Year award as the CHL’s top rearguard.

 

May 2012 – Dougie Hamilton led all OHL defensemen in scoring with 72 points as well as finishing tops in the league in powerplay assists with 30.  Hamilton was the recipient of the Max Kaminsky Trophy as the OHL’s Most Outstanding Defenseman of the Year. Brendan Ross

 

December, 2011 – Scoring well over a point a game as a rearguard in the OHL, Hamilton should have probably cracked the Boston roster this season. A beautifully efficient long-track skater for a big man, Hamilton has little left to learn about either offense or defense. However, there was certainly strong logic in sending him back: set for UFA status next summer, defensemen Johnny Boychuk and Joe Corvo are likely set to earn contracts at or above their current salaries. While most teams would panic, GM Peter Chiarelli merely needs to plug all 6’6 of Hamilton into his line-up to remain competitive. Matt Bugg

 

Fantasy Outlook: A

 

Hamilton is a man playing amongst boys in the Ontario Hockey League so look for him to challenge for a spot on the Bruins’ roster as early as 2011-12.  Playing in the AHL is not an option so it’s either the NHL or OHL for Dougie Hamilton.
