Observations:

October 2017 - The silky centre has missed the previous two contests for Vaxjo after suffering a minor injury. That shouldn't stop him from continuing to display an advanced level of play in Sweden's top tier. The 18-year-old has looked at home on the top line and top man-advatnage unit, recording three assists through his first five contests while playng roughly 15 minutes per contest. Previous running-mate, Jonathan Dahlen has recently decided to head back to Sweden for the year and it's assumed he'll catch on with Vaxjo and hopefully reunite with Pettersson. It'll be a situation to watch and could pay even further dividends for the most recent fifth overall selection. Cam Robinson

September 2017 - Pettersson has aclimated very quickly to the top tier in Sweden. Playing for Växjö HC in the Champions League tournament - a mixed bag of Euro teams competing to get their legs going before their club's regular seasons begins, the silky playmaker spent a good deal of time playing left wing on the team's top line. There, he recorded two goals and four points in four games. Vaxjo's regular season begins on Tuesday, September 19th against Brynä IF. Cam Robinson

July 2017 - The Canucks' most recent first round selection put on quite the show at the team's development camp earlier this week. The ultra-skilled centre scored two very eye-pleasing markers during regulation play and then converted on a silky deke via the shoot-out. This will be his one and only look in North America for the next year as he'll be gearing up for his SHL season by the time rookie and main camps begin in September. Cam Robinson

June 2017 – The Canucks selected the highly skilled Swede with the fifth overall selection at the 2017 entry draft. Pettersson is an exciting and play-driving center with good speed, terrific vision and playmaking abilities and deft puck skills. Playing on a line with Canucks' prospect Jonathan Dahlen with Timra of the Allsvenskan this past season, the two displayed strong chemistry and will likely get an opportunity to continue forging that alliance in the coming seasons. While standing 6-2, Pettersson weighs just 165 pounds, so adding strength will be a main focus as he heads to Vaxjo of the SHL for 2017-18. While he may be only the second-most valuable fantasy asset in the Canucks' organization today, that will likely change as he gets closer to the NHL. His upside is very high. Cam Robinson

February 2017 - A work in progress as he has some serious filling out to do. He has height at 6-2 but is very slight at 161 pounds. He has added about ten pounds in the last year so he is adding strength and bulk but has a long way to go. Pettersson possesses a high hockey IQ and vision that allow him to make creative plays and impressive passes. His puck skills are a strength as he can make slick dekes and moves to create time and space. His lack of strength can be evident with conditioning as he tires often and can be muscled off the puck by bigger and stronger opponents.  Pettersson is a prospect that needs some development time and physical maturity but the upside is significant given the skill and the smarts.  Peter Harling

Fantasy Outlook: A

A cerebral and efficient point-producing center with top-line upside. Very creative with the puck.
