September 2021- Pettersson was one of the top scorers in the SHL last year, racking up 22 goals and 48 points, good for fourth in the league. The Coyotes did not offer him a qualifying offer and he’s now a free agent. Currently Pettersson is signed to play for Spartak Moskva in the KHL this coming season. Keith Duggan

October 2020- Now in the second year of his contract with Vaxjo, it doesn’t seem like Pettersson has any interest of returning to North America, when the NHL/AHL season’s do start back up. Keith Duggan

July 2019- With his entry-level contract coming to an end, Pettersson decided to head back to Sweden and signed two-year pact with Vaxjo Lakers HC of the SHL. He put up five assists in 12 games with Tucson after coming over from Milwaukee. The Coyotes issued him a qualifying offer so they retain his rights if Pettersson decides to give North America a go again. Keith Duggan

February 2019- After watching how well Vancouver Canucks star rookie Elias Pettersson has played this season, the Coyotes decided to go out and trade for their own Pettersson, acquiring his older brother Emil from Nashville. While Pettersson has shown flashes in his two and half seasons in North America, Coyote fans expecting anything close to younger brother Elias will be greatly disappointed. He has 11 goals and 33 points in 49 games with the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals so far this season. Pettersson will report to Tucson but could see a call-up as Arizona has had major injury issues at the center position this year. The Coyotes gave up two valuable pieces from their AHL team in Tucson for Pettersson, as the trade seems more about freeing up a contract spot more than anything. Arizona was at the limit of 50 before this deal. Keith Duggan

October 2018 – Pettersson has four points in his last five games with Milwaukee in the AHL. He seems to have found his footing after a bit of a slow start. Pettersson is used primarily as a playmaker with the Admirals, but he is shooting the puck more. He may score more than 13 goals this season if he keeps this up. Matt Somma

October 2018 – Pettersson has a goal through the first three games of the season for Milwaukee. The 24-year-old forward had a successful rookie campaign in 2018 with 46 points in 72 games. Pettersson is still a lanky forward and is close to entering his prime. He will need to have a big season if he wants to make it to the NHL in the next two years. Matt Somma

March 2018 – Emil Pettersson has adjusted well since crossing the pond to the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals. The Swedish centre has 10 goals and 34 points in 51 games. He has also collected 24 penalty minutes and a -3 rating. Recently, Pettersson has skated on the Admirals’ third line with Justin Kirkland and Trevor Mingoia. He had a strong start to the season, but has become slightly less consistent lately. Pettersson’s strength lies in his passing and his skating. He’s an excellent distributor who can make plays on the fly. Pettersson could get a look in Nashville as early as next season if his development continues to approve in the AHL. Tyler Halsey

July 2017 – Earlier this May, the Nashville Predators signed forward Emil Pettersson to a two-year, entry-level contract. The 23-year-old finished ninth in points this past season, while splitting time between Skelleftea, and Vaxjo in the Swedish Hockey League. In 51 games he scored 15 goals and 23 assists. After the Predators selected Pettersson in the sixth round of the 2013 entry draft, he returned to Sweden where he has played the past four years. Pettersson is a creative, puck distributing center that can skate fast and handle the puck well even at high speed. His on-ice vision is top notch and he possesses a great shot. There have been some reports about the lack of physicality in his game. The Predators prospect depth down the middle is deep. He is expected to play for the American Hockey League’s Milwaukee Admirals next season. Niko Salminen
