Plays best using speed and grit; Top 9 multi-cat forward potential

June 2018 – Flames did not tender a qualifying offer and he is now an unrestricted free agent. Dobber

Jan 2018 – Poirier has once again fell into old patterns. The most troubling is shot production. For a prospect who was touted to be a game-breaking goal scorer, he really hasn’t shot the puck very much. Using the month of December as a snapshot, he had five points and 18 shots in 11 games. Ten of his 18 shots came in 2 of those games. Math wizards will tell you that means he had eight shots in the other nine games. Poirier continues to be left behind other prospects in minutes and opportunity. – Joel Henderson

Oct 2017 – After an inspiring preseason with Calgary, Emile is back in Stockton and not changing any minds with his play. He has looked better than he did around January 2017 but he would need to jump over Spencer Foo, Garnet Hathaway, Morgan Klimchuk, and Andrew Mangiapane in order to get better minutes. Call it the fourth line, call it the third line. Whatever you call it, he looks to be a first-round bust. He hasn’t been able to consistently create on his own and his inconsistencies have left him off the PP as well. While he is probably getting positive mentorship it might be well past time for a change of scenery is needed. – Joel Henderson

Apr 2017 – Emile has been on a personal leave from Stockton since Feb 18th. He missed the last 23 games on the season and there has been minimal updates on his timeline for returning. It’s a giant question mark for the prospect. At his time of departure, he hadn’t registered a point in 13 games, not shooting the puck, and his minutes were dimishing. In these situations, I think we can all hope that his personal wellbeing is healthy, but from a fantasy hockey perspective he’s extremely dropable at this point unless you are a sucker for a longshot. – Joel Henderson

Dec 2016 – What is the easiest way to struggle? Linemates. Poirier continues to shoot the puck at a high rate and generate a generous amount of scoring chances when he’s deployed. Stockton does not want to give him premium minutes, despite awarding him with the “A” to encourage his leadership. Instead of giving him top line minutes, they have been awarded to potential NHL fourth liners like Bollig and the promoted Hathaway. At this point, it’s tough to tell the development plan Calgary has to for Poirier, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was potentially part of trade deadline discussions. – Joel Henderson

Oct 2016 – Poirier might be the forward who will benefit most from the cleaning house in Stockton. He showcased his elite speed and grit at the Flames camp and looked to be involved in the play on a nightly basis. This was night and day better from his disappointing camp in 2015/16. Still has shifts where he vanishes, but with last year spent working on pro intangibles, Poirier should put up improved numbers in the AHL. – Joel Henderson

Apr 2016 – Calgary chose to use an emergency call up on Emile Poirier and in his time with the team he dressed twice. They gave him about fourteen minutes a night and very little special teams. This was not a season that Poirier took huge steps forward. He is still showing growth towards an overall game and still maintains his ability to break a game open with his speed and wrist shot. His biggest support is how thin Flames are at RW. – Joel Henderson

Jan 2015: Emile grabbed three points (1g, 2a) in a win over the Wild on Jan 17th. Maybe the most important aspect of the game was that Klimchuk and Poirier joined Grant on the top line for the third period. Top offensive minutes with better players will do him well.

Dec 2015 – After missing three games due to injury, Emile responded with a two goal effort, leading to a 3-2 victory over San Antonio. Emile hasn’t had the best start to the year and he made comments after about how his start has been poor. As he’s suggested, these individual effort goals might be a good spark. He needs to continue this type of play if he wants to be a late season call up.  – Joel Henderson

Oct 2015 – After struggles in training camp, he got off to a nice start with two even strength assists in the first game. – Joel Henderson

Sept 2015 – He seemingly had a tough training camp in the eyes of the coaching staff. While given minutes with Bennett and other young stars, Poirier was not in serious discussions for cracking the roster. He has been sent to Stockton. – Joel Henderson

June 2015 – Poirier was one of two Adirondack players nominated to the AHL All-star game and improved on his puck possession steadily through the season. He only played 55 games since he spent time in the NHL and grabbed one assist in six games while finding himself a healthy scratch on more than a few occasions. Overall, this was a great start to his professional career as he led the Heat in points per game (fourth in AHL rookie ppg) and should continue to push for playing time next year in Calgary. Joel Henderson

July 2014 – Poirier posted two goals and two assists in four games with the Heat to close the year. He will be interesting to watch in camp but will likely figure in as a key point producer in Adirondack this season. Brad Wilson

April 2014 – Gatineau was eliminated tonight by the defending Memorial Cup Champion Halifax Mooseheads. It is quite possible that Poirier joins the Heat in Abbotsford. Will update as I hear… The team just keeps getting better and better. Many Flames prospects are looking at a good long playoff run if all stars align. Brad Wilson

April 2014 – Poirier finished the QMJHL regular season ranked eighth in scoring with 43 goals and 87 points in 63 games. He then potted six goals and eight points in a four game first round sweep of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Poirier has lightning speed and has continued to improve over his young career. He is likely looking at one more season in junior and possibly two years before becoming a Flames regular but the speedy winger has the tools to be a difference maker on a rebuilding Calgary roster. Brad Wilson

February 2014 – The Flames selected Poirier 22nd overall and many felt it was a bit of a stretch, however, it’s a move that’s looking brilliant now. The Gatineau Olympique star is producing at a fantastic rate with 36 goals and 70 points through 48 games placing him 8th in QMJHL scoring. He’s been fiesty and hungry for the puck which should be quickly noted in fantasy leagues because he does own superb multi-cat value. On February 5th, Poirier scored four goals including an absolutely filthy fourth marker to lift his team to a 7-2 victory (video below). Brendan Ross

October 2013 – After tallying three goals and three assists, Emile Poirier was named the QMJHL’s First Star of the Week (ending October 6th). In the first seven games of the 2013-14 QMJHL season, Poirier has notched six goals and six assists for an impressive 12 points. He should remain in contention for the scoring lead throughout the season. Brendan Ross

June 2013  Poirier is a player who contributes in all areas of the rink – he scores, he defends, he hits, and he even drops the mitts. He is an intelligent forward with a complete understanding of the game making him extremely versatile. He possesses good top end speed but could stand to become more agile to better elude defenders. Poirier’s puck skills and vision are both advanced and make him an effective penalty killer. In 65 games with Gatineau, Poirier posted 32 goals and 70 points while racking up 101 penalty minutes. Brendan Ross
