Observations:

February 2016 – Like last season, Meurs has found moderate success in the ECHL and none in the AHL. His chances of becoming fantasy-relevant at the age of 23 are nil. Hayden Soboleski

 

May 2015 – Meurs played 20 games in the AHL with Lake Erie in the 2014-15 season, but put up almost nothing to show for it (zero points, minus-2, eight PIM). He spent most of the season in the ECHL with the Fort Wayne Komets, where he had more success with 22 points in 30 games (12 goals, 10 assists), 42 PIM, and another three points in six playoff games. Meurs will vie for ice time in the AHL again next year, but his lack of contributions on the ice makes his chances of getting a shot anytime soon in the NHL slim. Hayden Soboleski

 

June 2014 – Meurs just polished off a decent first full season in the AHL with the Lake Erie Monsters. Appearing in 64 games with the club, he produced six goals and eight assists. He added 74 PIMs as well, which isn’t bad for a shorter prospect. Last season, Meurs signed a three-year entry-level contract with Colorado. Next season, he looks to improve on his AHL production while also putting on weight and muscle. Meurs’s greatest attribute is his work ethic. While not the largest player by any means, he’s gritty and isn’t afraid to get his nose dirty. He’s a great person on and off the ice and shows signs of being a leader down the road. These next two years in the AHL will show us where Meurs will likely end up. Chris Bagwell

 

March 2013- Garrett Meurs has signed a three year entry level deal with the Colorado Avalanche. Meurs is indicative of the typical signings of the Avalanche of late.  He is a hard working role player that gets pucks to the net and has great leadership on and off the ice. He is good in all three zones and time in the AHL will be a great test of his true tallent, as he has been over shadowed by some superstar caliber players, Tyler Seguin being one of them. It will be interesting to see what Meurs does with this opportunity but he wont be seeing any NHL time for at least two to three years. Andrew Ward

 

March 2012 – The Avalanche have made some shrewd draft picks in recent drafts and Garrett Meurs in the fifth round is no exception.  Meurs is learning that hard work and high compete level earns you valuable ice time with Plymouth Whalers’ head coach Mike Vellucci. The former OHL first round selection has developed good work habits in Plymouth and improved each and every season.  Meurs does not excel in any particular area but he is good in almost all aspects.  Meurs  has been overshadowed by larger names playing in Plymouth as Tyler Seguin, Rickard Rakell and, recently, Stefan Noesen have took most of the offensive spotlight.  Meurs’ hockey intelligence is strong but the lack of top offensive skills makes him a longshot at being a fantasy relevant player.

 

Fantasy Outlook: D 

Meurs is unlikely to be a fantasy asset, but could have value in multi-cat leagues if he works his way into a third-line role.
