Observations:

May 2016 – Guillaume Gelinas managed to stay healthier in his second professional hockey campaign and unfortunately he spent much of that time shaking the cobwebs. Through 68 games between the Iowa Wild and the Quad City Mallards he managed to muster 11 goals along with 21 helpers. His willingness to compete is commendable but it often results in him trying to accomplish too much in a shift. His skating has shown improvement but he needs to rediscover his scoring punch that he can provide a goal deprived Iowa Wild roster this upcoming season. Edric Joseph

 

March 2015 – A little more than a month removed from an upper body injury, Guillaume Gelinas has still left the Minnesota fan base with much to be desired. Gelinas has had a trying time finding his bearings out on the ice nevermind the offensive flair we have grown accustomed to seeing in seasons’ past. This season as a whole has been something of a learning curve where he has to get use to tougher competition where he cannot get away with the same aggressive offensive advances he would be able to pull off in the QMJHL. In his defense, he is being deployed in a much different fashion than his days playing for Val d’Or with fewer offensive zone starts be it on even strength or with a man advantage unit. That being said, his defensive play hasn’t provided much to complain about with his assertiveness in his own zone and aptitude for making sound decisions in his own end. Edric Joseph

 

December 2014 – After going undrafted and spending a full four year tenure in the QMJHL ranks, Gelinas embarked on a new chapter in his competitive hockey career as the Minnesota Wild program took a flier on the relative unknown Quebec City product. To date, Gelinas has left something to be desired in regards to how his professional career with the Iowa Wild has taken off. Nevertheless given what the Minnesota system have seen in him they will allot him his share of opportunities to find his way and get use to playing without dominant scoring threats such as Anthony Mantha. Not known to be physical but is capable of playing bigger than he is at times. Is being counted on to provide an offensive spark, where anything else would be considered bonus contributions. Needs to find his offensive assertiveness on the professional level, and refine his skating in the meantime to remain elusive if he is to remain at his current playing weight
