Fantasy Summary

Depth forward scoring in low-level Euro leagues

August 2020 – Baun is now playing European hockey is non-top-tier leagues and is not fantasy relevant. Hayden Soboleski

March 2018 – Baun has fit in well with the Marlies as a depth forward after arriving from Montreal as part of the deal that brought Plekanec to the Leafs. He is in the last year of his entry level contract and it is unlikely that the Leafs will provide him with an extension. He might be offered an AHL contract but it is more likely that he will move on from the Leafs organization after this season. Baun’s NHL upside is very limited and at 25 he is running out of time to establish himself as an NHL player. Brian Harling

February 2018 – Coming to Toronto with Thomas Plekanec is the Godson of Toronto Maple Leafs great Bobby Baun, Kyle Baun. Baun is struggling in his third season in the AHL on a weak team in Laval. Baun was not drafted in the NHL and was signed as a free agent out of the NCAA. It is unlikely he sees much if any NHL games.

October 2017 – Baun was acquired by Montreal and assigned to their AHL affiliate in Laval. Peter Harling

September 2017- Baun was placed on waivers for the purpose of being assigned to Rockford of the AHL. Time is running out on the 25 year old, so this camp in Rockford is of special importance. A good start to the season is critical if Baun has any chance to return to the NHL with the Blackhawks organization. Tony Carr

June 2017- Baun has one year left on his contract and will do his best to put a disappointing season behind him when he arrives for training camp. Baun finished second in scoring on a terrible Rockford team and will look to build on those numbers this coming year. Time will tell if he plays his way into another contract. Tony Carr

January 2016 – After somewhat surprisingly starting the season in the Blackhawks’ opening night lineup, 2015-16 is turning into a lost season for Baun. He dressed in just two games before being sent down to Rockford in mid-October. He tallied zero points in 12 games with Rockford before having his arm sliced by a skate in November and has remained out of the lineup ever since. Baun was certainly hoping for more from his rookie campaign, but he did sign a two-year entry level deal last March and will get another chance to make the Blackhawks in 2016. Matt Donohue

May 2015 – An undrafted free agent out of Colgate University, Baun signed with the Chicago Blackhawks in March after he put up 14 goals and 15 assists in 38 games as a junior. Crap shoots by nature, we have seen varying degrees of success with college free agents, with more notable ones being Danny Dekeyser and Tyler Bozak. Baun’s hockey pedigree certainly gives him a chance at matching their success, as he is the grandson of Maple Leafs legend Bobby Baun. He is an above average skater and a very difficult player to play against. In just three games down the stretch for the Blackhawks, he had no points and averaged four hits per game. Looking ahead, Baun has the looks of a bottom-six forward that can chip in offensively as well. Matt Donohue
