Observations:

July 1, 2016  – Tampa Bay signed the versatile forward to a one-year, two-way UFA contract. Mark Allan

March 2015 – During his 89 games in the NHL, Bournival has gone from a surprise NHL player to an effective energy line player. Now in his second year he has completely fallen out of favor and finds himself back in the AHL. Still, his career is far from over and will probably find himself back in the NHL at some point, whether it be in Montreal or elsewhere. It is just unlikely that he will be back in he NHL this season. Eric Daoust

November 2014 – Bournival has been a frequent healthy scratch this year and in his second game he suffered what appeared to be a serious shoulder injury. The timing of the injury is terrible as there are more capable players up front in Montreal than there are available roster spots. Bournival needs to capitalize on his opportunities to once again become a regular in the Canadiens' lineup. Eric Daoust

October 2014 – The arrivals of P.A. Parenteau, Manny Malhotra and Jiri Sekac put Bournival's roster spot in jeopardy. While he managed to keep his spot on the roster, he has not suited up in any of the team's first four games. While he still has a good future ahead of him in the NHL as a depth scorer, it appears that Bournival will be in tough to be a major factor for the foreseeable future. Eric Daoust

June 2014 – Bournival had a successful rookie campaign in Montreal where he served primarily as a bottom-six winger. His speed and forechecking abilities where an asset to the team. Despite the promotion to the NHL full-time after just one year of minor-league seasoning, his long-term upside remains in doubt. For the moment he appears set to remain in his current role and with the team set to bring up several good young talents in the coming years, it will be difficult for Bournival to take advantage of opportunities to move up the depth chart. Eric Daoust

November 2013 – Bournival has recently been demoted to the fourth line as part of some line juggling. While his ice time has been below the 10-minute mark in each of the last five games, he continue to provide good quality including a goal and an assist during that stretch. Fantasy owners should be patient. The fact that he remains with the big club and continues to play well puts him at the top of the priority list for a promotion to the scoring lines if there is an injury or some more line shake-ups. Eric Daoust

October 2013 – Bournival has seven points in his last seven games and has great chemistry with Tomas Plekanec and Brian Gionta. In the last four games he has had at least 15 minutes of ice time and he has also been seeing time on both the power play and penalty kill. His strong start could allow him to keep his scoring-line spot when the injured Habs' forwards return. Eric Daoust

October 2013 – Bournival has been told to look for a permanent place to live in Montreal which indicates that he will remain in the NHL for the foreseeable future. He has two points in five games while seeing limited minutes. Eric Daoust

September 2013 – Bournival was a standout player at the Canadiens' training camp and forced his way onto the opening-night roster. It is not clear if his promotion is permanent but with a lack of NHL-ready forwards in the organization Bournival could get an extended stay. His offensive potential, both short-term and in the long run, are limited but he showed great speed and smart positional play. He projects to be a good two-way centerman down the road. Eric Daoust

May 2013 – Bournival finished his first pro season with 10 goals and 30 points in 69 games, just one point shy of the team best. Most encouraging is his play down the stretch as he tallied 17 points in the final 30 contests. If he can continue next year at this pace he could put himself at the front of the line for a promotion to the Canadiens' main roster. Eric Daoust

December 2012 – Is currently skating on the third line for the offensively inept Bulldogs. Has shown he can be steady and dependable in pro hockey. Looks like, he will become a very dependable prospect in his future years during his growth at the AHL level. His six points currently keeps him on pace with most mid line teammates, and gives a positive feeling towards what kind of offence he could provide in two to three years. Jason Banks

March 2012 – Because of injury and the World Junior Championships, Bournival only suited up for 41 games this season but still managed to put up a 30 goal season. The Cataractes captain is a complete player who is known for his competiveness and work ethic. He is a good skater and is counted on in all situations. He will be playing a major role in Shawinigan quest for the Memorial Cup.

Fantasy Outlook: C-

Modest upside as his offensive production will not likely transfer to the pro game but does possess the drive and skill to become a regular in the NHL.
