Observations:

May 2015 – Chaput began the season in the NHL, putting up five points in 33 games, but was sent back down in January. After that, he gathered 21 points in 44 games with the Falcons. Chaput isn’t afraid to drop the gloves either. He may still get another chance with the big club, but it appears he is being outplayed by some of the other youngsters. He’s an RFA this summer, but it’s likely CBJ offers him a contract and assigns him to the AHL club where he’ll continue to develop. Still just 23 years old, but running out of time. – Chris Bagwell

March 2014 – Chaput has really picked up his game this year. In his second full season with the Springfield Falcons of the AHL, he’s amassed 37 points in 43 games. He’s already exceeded his point total from last year.  Currently he is second on the team in points with 13 fewer games played. He may not take a lot of shots, but when he does, they’re likely to go in (21.3 shooting percentage). Chaput plays on the first powerplay unit and has acquired seven of his points on it. He has a big frame and can be used in all situations. He’s seen 17 NHL games this season, but has only recorded one assist with about eight minutes of ice time per game. Chris Bagwell

April 2013 – In his first year of professional hockey, Chaput leads all Springfield Falcon rookies in goals (tied), assists, and points with 11-17-28 in 51 games played. The points aren't overly impressive, but he had just six in his first 27 AHL games – and 22 in his last 40. While most of us celebrate our 21st birthdays in the bars, Chaput was supposed to be celebrating his in his first NHL appearance April 9 vs. the San Jose Sharks at home. But mere hours before gametime, he was re-assigned to Springfield. Chaput has typically been a pass-first type of forward, and may be a guy the Jackets look toward to provide a spark after recently being shut out in a critical game versus divisional rival Nashville. – Tim Lucarelli

May, 2012 – Chaput was named MVP of the Memorial Cup leading Shawinigan to the title. He led the tournament in scoring and was very much a clutch player – something that had been one of the question marks about him. – Dobber

May, 2012 – Michael Chaput recently signed an entry level contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets after completing his fourth season in the QMJHL.  He is a talented two-way forward who should be able to land a depth role in the NHL.  There is an opportunity for upward mobility in the Columbus depth chart and if Chaput can learn to produce points with more frequency he could exceed expectations and find a home on a scoring line.  His talent at the face-off circle will be an asset in some fantasy leagues. Eric Daoust

Fantasy Outlook: C

He’ll need to develop his offensive game to earn a consistent spot in the NHL, but the potential, talent, and work ethic are all present.
