December 2017- Kempny remains in the NHL with Chicago but hasn’t seen action in a month. He will be fighting with Jordan Oesterle and Ville Pokka to take the spot vacated by an injured Cody Franson. Tony Carr

October 2017- Kempny seems to have found his place on the Blackhawks roster, appearing in all regular season games to date. His consistent play this year could be due to the fact he has a full season in the NHL under his belt. Don’t expect big numbers on offence, but he has relevance in leagues that track hits and blocks. January 2017- Kempny has spent his entire first season in the NHL with the Blackhawks. While the transition to the North American game has had its ups and downs, overall Kempny has played solid hockey and seems to be gaining confidence with every game. His offence should pick up as the season goes on.~Tony Carr

May 2016 – Kempny was signed as a free agent after an impressive season with Avangard Omsk of the KHL that saw him notch five goals and 16 assists to lead all defensemen in team scoring. The 25 year-old had a lot of interest from other NHL teams but Chicago presented an intriguing opportunity with a chance at immediate playing time. Perhaps he tuned into the Blackhawks’ first round defeat to the Blues and saw the team’s glaring lack of depth at the position. He is highly regarded by the Czech National program, as he was part of the initial announcement for the upcoming World Cup of Hockey and served as an alternate captain at the recent IIHF World Championships.

Kempny is a well-rounded defenseman who can hold his own at both ends of the ice. He is slightly undersized and will be the smallest d-man on the roster as it stands now. Still, he is a mobile skater who can make the key first pass to the Blackhawks’ high flying forwards. It goes without saying that there is fantasy potential as soon as next season on this talent-laden roster, and Kempny will be someone to monitor in training camp. He has been compared by scouts to fellow Czech native Marek Zidlicky who provided us owners with plenty of fantasy goodness in his prime. Matt Donohue

Fantasy Outlook: B

Could immediately slide into a top-four role and see PP time in his rookie season.
