Observations:

August 2016 – Kovacs scored at a nice pace towards the end of last season in the HockeyAllsvenskan, recording seven goals and four assists in his final 11 regular season games. He also had four points in seven playoff games. Despite not having a big jump in production, the New York Rangers inked the Swedish speedster to an entry level contract on July 16, 2016. His agent later confirmed that Kovacs would in fact play in North America this year. While the OHL’s North Bay Battalion do hold his junior rights, their recent addition of defenseman Adam Thilander makes it likely that Kovacs will play for either the Hartford Wolf Pack or Greenville Swamp Rabbits this year. January 2016 – The speedy winger has been playing in both the Swedish Hockey League, the top professional hockey league in Sweden, and the league a step below (Swe-1). He has dressed in only four games for Rogle BK of the Swedish Hockey League. In those contests, Kovacs has just one assist, and a minus-1 rating. His numbers playing for AIK in the Swe-1 league provide a better indication of what he has done this season. He was able to amass 14 goals and nine assists through his first 33 games. His numbers are not jumping off the page this year, but he still has some room to grow, and hopefully for the Rangers he can earn a full-time spot in the Swedish Hockey League. Bryan Puffer

June 2015 – The New York Rangers selected Robin Kovacs with the 62nd pick of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. The speedy winger was also selected by the North Bay Battalion in the second round of the CHL Import Draft so he does have options to play in the OHL for 2015-16. Brendan Ross

June 2015- Kovacs likes to wreak havoc on opponents whether it’s on the score sheet or in their head. His abilities allow him to play in any situation and his deception mixed with a lethal shot makes him threat to score at any moment. As the second youngest player on his team at 17-year-old, Kovacs led AIM who play in the second-tier Allsvenskan in goals (17), points (28) and penalty minutes (63). For his efforts he was nominated for the “Guldgallret” as the junior league’s best player. Kovacs laced them up with fellow Swede and 2015 NHL draft prospect Oliver Kylington this past season and is hopeful to join him as an NHL prospect when his name is called between rounds one and three. Travis Watson

 

Fantasy Outlook: C+

Kovacs' ceiling is a top-six forward who isn’t afraid to stir it up, so he could reward those with leagues that value PIMs.
