Fantasy Summary

Bottom-six potential with offensive and physical capabilities

July 2019 – Lappin has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Blues.  Jokke Nevalainen

April 2019 – Lappin’s regression has continued and there is some doubt whether he is even in the Devils’ future plans at this point. Chris Wassel

March 2019 – Lappin is 26-years-old and seems to be going backward as opposed to progressing. Defensively, the forward’s production has dropped in Binghamton to just 0.6 points per game (was 0.82 last year — along with a goal production dip). Some will argue the injuries have led to a precipitous drop in surrounding talent. That is true. However, Lappin looks less apt to engage in puck battles and worse, just does not appear to be the same player he was the previous two seasons. This has created some doubt as to whether New Jersey will keep him in the organization. Chris Wassel

June 2017 – After splitting his first pro year between New Jersey (43 games – four goals and three assists) and AHL Albany (35 games, plus four in the post-season) Lappin should be in the mix for a 2017-18 regular NHL, bottom-six role as the Devils reconstruct their lines. His decent, 14-goal, 15-assist A-Devils totals show scoring promise to complement his physical game. Kevin Wickersham

February 2017 – Lappin has spent the majority of the 2016-17 campaign with New Jersey (3 G, 4 A in 35 games). He was primarily in a gritty bottom-six role but provided little scoring after the early days of the season as he had no points since December 3 prior to his mid-January return to AHL Albany. Still holds NHL promise for the future, but for now, will further develop with the A-Devils where he has totaled five goals and eight assists in 17 games. Kevin Wickersham

November 2016 – Very rapidly rising through the Devils system, the 24-year-old Lappin seems to have found a regular spot on the parent Devils. After initially spending six games with Albany this campaign, Lappin has dressed for the last 13 with New Jersey, scoring three goals and dishing out two assists while mainly working on their third and fourth lines. Coach Hynes has gradually increased his ice time and recently promoted him to their top line playing right wing alongside Travis Zajac and Mike Cammalleri where he has displayed continued forechecking intensity and gritty, intuitive playmaking skills. Kevin Wickersham

June 2016 – Nick Lappin signed a 2-year entry level contract with the New Jersey Devils in March after a successful senior season for Brown University. As an alternate captain, he led the team in goals (17) and points (33). He also played for the Devils’ AHL team Albany Devils, scoring seven points in 12 regular seasons and leading the team in goals in a playoff with five. He also had 40 shots in 11 playoff games. Lappin is a versatile forward who battles hard and has the skill to go along with it. He’s got quick hands and a deceptive shot. Lappin plays a dependable two-way game with speed and energy. He’s strong away from the puck and can use his speed as an asset. Marco Bombino
