Observations:

July 2015 – Roy was not offered a contract by any AHL or NHL team after being traded from Edmonton to Calgary in 2013. He signed a one-year contract and spent the 2014/15 season with the Idaho Steelheads and currently does not have an professional contract. Although he has had success at the ECHL level, he has not impressed enough to gain significant playing time in the AHL. Joel Henderson

 

November 2013 – The Oilers traded Roy, along with Ladislav Smid, to Calgary for forward Roman Horak and prized goaltender Laurent Brossoit. Roy was off to a rocky start for OKC and is becoming a long shot to ever make the NHL. – Dobber

 

April 2013- The Oilers are well stocked with young players and have a legit goaltender in Devan Dubnyk but waiting in their pipeline is Roy, a goaltender who has been somewhat of an enigma so far. He is one of the most athletic goalies in North America and has shown an extremely strong glove hand. Roy needs to work on consistency and his confidence when going through tough stretches. Roy often loses focus mentally when things are rough. He needs to fight through things more and learn that the ups and downs that are all part of the development process. Has spent a significant amount of time in the ECHL which is concerning for a prospect at his point in development. However, when he is on his game, Olivier Roy can be a game breaker.  Bill Kellett

He needs to make his mark in the Calgary farm system or risk being let go from the organization altogether.
