Observations:

 

June 2015- Tobias Rieder was definitely one of the biggest pleasant surprises of 2014-15 season for the Coyotes. He finished the year with 21 points in 72 games, his 13 goals ninth among rookies. An excellent penalty-killer, Rieder's three shorthanded goals were tops among rookies and tied for third in the NHL. A smart two-way player, his 189 shots were fourth among rookies and tied for second on the Coyotes. Rieder's going to be a big part of the rebuild in Arizona. Also for a second year in a row he got to represent Germany in the World Championship, finishing the tournament with three assist in seven games.  Keith Duggan

 

December 2014- Tobias Rieder created a lot of buzz in a game on 12/2/14 against Edmonton. With the Oilers, the team that drafted him but traded his rights to the Coyotes, on the power play, Rieder scored two shorthanded goals in 58 seconds. He became the first rookie and second player in franchise history to score two shorthanded goals in one game. Keith Duggan

 

November 2014- While Rieder hasn't tore it up offensively with the Coyotes, two goals and five points in 13 games, he has impressed coach Dave Tippett with his smart, responsible, two-way game. Also he's first on the Coyotes and fifth among rookies in the league with a plus -6 rating, while averaging 14:43 per game. Keith Duggan

 

November 2014- With the Coyoyes struggling, the team decided to shake things up and recalled Rieder from the AHL on November 2nd. Rieder didn't disappoint, scoring a goal and playing very well in his first ever NHL game, a 6-5 win over the Washington Capitols. With an impressive debut, look for Rieder to spend some more time with the big club, and if he continues to play on the top line with Shane Doan, put some more points on the board. October 2014- Tobias Rieder had an excellent camp for the Coyotes and looked to have earned an roster spot with the team. But they decided to give the young forward more time to develop in the AHL and assigned him to Portland. After an impressive rookie season, Rieder should have a even better second season in the AHL. June 2014- It was an impressive rookie pro season for Rieder, finishing the season with 28 goals and 48 points in 64 games for Portland of the AHL. His 28 goals, fifth among rookies in the American League. Along with the goal scoring skill, he showed a strong all around game and proved to be an excellent penalty killer for the Pirates. At the conclusion of his season with no playoff's for Portland, he was chosen to play for Germany in the World Championship, finishing the tournament with one goal in seven games. Keith Duggan

 

January 2014 – Rieder has had a solid first half to his rookie pro season with 13 goals and 21 points in 34 games for the Portland Pirates. After scoring four goals in three games to start his season (he missed some time with a foot injury in the middle of that scoring streak) he has cooled off but has played a solid two-way game and showed his skill throughout the season for the Pirates. He could earn a call-up to the Coyotes after the Olympics but the more likely scenario is playing out the season for Pirates. Keith Duggan

 

April 2013 – The Edmonton Oilers moved their 4th round selection in 2011, Tobias Rieder, for Phoenix's 4th round selection, Kale Kessy, adding size to their organizational depth. Rieder joins a Coyotes system that is lacking skilled forward prospects so this move actually boosts Tobias Rieder's fantasy value and opportunity. Rieder is coming off an underwhelming OHL regular season with the Kitchener Rangers where his production levels dropped, mainly due to injuries. Rieder picked up 27 goals and 56 points in a 52-game season after breaking out with 42 goals and 85 points in his sophomore OHL season. Rieder is a skilled forward with great vision and his ability to operate the powerplay will be a welcomed talent in the desert. Brendan Ross

 

December 2012 – Rieder will participate in the WJC in Russia, playing for Germany. He will be counted on to supply offense as the Germans fight to remain in the main tournament. Rich Dillon

 

October 2012 – Tobias Rieder is coming off his strongest week statistically of the 2012-2013 season after the third-year junior player posted three goals and eight points to earn a honourable mention for OHL Player of the Week. His Kitchener Rangers struggled to start the season (as their arena underwent construction) but Rieder bounced back elevating his stats to 15 points in the opening 10 games.  Rieder still shows that he needs to improve his strength on the puck as he is easily knocked off of the puck but his vision and offensive creativity bodes well for fantasy owners. Brendan Ross

 

March 2012 – Tobias Rieder is a very talented skater with excellent hands and a good shot. One thing that is noticeable about Rieder is how he carries the puck through the neutral zone. He is very effective at carrying the puck into the attacking zone much like Brian Campbell does. Rieder is a small player who won’t win battles based on size, but could win based on speed.  Rieder has excelled this season with the Kitchener Rangers, leading the team in points and is among the top points leaders in the OHL. Fantasy Outlook: B-

 

With a solid rookie season behind him, Rieder is only going to get better. He'll never be a huge scorer but 40-50 points and some PP and SH points will be the norm.
