June 2016 – Entering the season coming off an Achilles tendon injury, Toronto's former 22nd overall pick amassed exactly three points in 13 games between the AHL and ECHL after Pittburgh acquired him along with Phil Kessel. With Biggs due to become an RFA this off-season, Pittsburgh will surely be the second NHL franchise to give up on the once-budding power forward. Mark Allan

November 2015 – He's only 22 but it's a shame that Biggs' career is going nowhere because Pittsburgh could really use a large, physical presence. The Penguins needed a strong response after Sidney Crosby was cross-checked to the ice with a vicious shot to the back of the neck by nemesis Brandon Dubinsky. As No. 87 laid prone on the ice in front of the Columbus net, Dubinsky gave him another shot to the back. Evgeni Malkin inspired a melee when he jabbed in response at Blue Jackets' goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, then fought blueliner Jack Johnson. It shouldn't fall to Pittsburgh's other superstar forward to defend a teammate, especially since his tussle with Johnson proved he is no pugilist. Biggs, meanwhile has a goal and an assist in four AHL games this season. Mark Allan

July 2015 – A former first-round draft choice once mentioned in the same breath as Milan Lucic, the muscular Biggs would be more accurately compared these days to Morris Titanic (a 1973 Buffalo first-rounder who sank without a trace). At 22, Biggs has yet to play an NHL shift, and his AHL production does not suggest that is imminent. Power forwards take time to develop, and Biggs is taking his time learning the pro game. In 108 AHL games in three seasons with the Toronto Marlies, he had a paltry 10 goals and five assists with a combined minus-5 as well as no points in four playoff games. In eight ECHL games last season, the husky but lumbering winger amassed four goals and two assists, suggesting that he’s best suited there currently, not the AHL — let alone the best hockey league on the planet. This will be his last season on his entry-level contract after which he becomes an RFA, so he should be motivated. – Mark Allan

March 2015 – The Toronto Marlies have shut down Tyler Biggs for the remainder of the 2014-15 AHL season to have surgery on a partially torn Achilles tendon. Biggs season has been disappointing with him showing little progress and only five points to his name. Brendan Ross

March 2015 – It is about time we start talking about being a ‘bust’ as a first round selection. Biggs is yet to show any talents that was reasoned by Brian Burke and scouts making him worthy of a 1^st round selection. He seems content in his role as a 4^th line grinder and is starting to appear on the penalty kill, but the idea of a power forward seems gone. Biggs does get a fair amount of shots for his lack of ice time, but most are low percentage shots from outside or flips-ins to the zone. With the prospects the Leafs are accumulating there are few opportunities coming for him to become a productive weapon despite a need for a power winger beyond Josh Leivo. He is a candidate to be dealt as a spare part in a swap to a team needing to replace organizational depth after they give up a few higher end prospects for a mature Leaf. I hope everyone avoided him as advised, but a new organization would bring new role and make him worth watching again. Jason Banks

November 2013 – Much was expected from Biggs who turned pro with a frame beyond his age, up to this point he has been a very large disappointment (pun intended). His first point of the season was scored in his second game in early October, it has also been his last point thus far. On many nights he doesn’t seem willing to engage, nor able, with a lack of speed for the AHL level. I failed to get a look at him in junior circles, but watching him first hand on the Marlies, I have yet to see anything that made him worthy of a first round selection or the hype that Brian Burke placed on him for ‘Leaf Nation’. Stashing him at this point is not suggested as you can take much better chances on higher ceiling and closer prospects. Jason Banks

April 2013 – After a successful freshman regular season in the Ontario Hockey League scoring 26 goals and 53 points (60 games), Tyler Biggs fizzled out during post-season action with the Oshawa Generals. In nine playoff contests, the big winger tallied one lone assist and went minus-1 playing big minutes for the Generals. With his OHL season done, the Toronto Maple Leafs may consider calling him up to the Marlies of the AHL but cracking the lineup with 14 healthy forwards could prove to be tough. Brendan Ross

February 2013 – Biggs looks like he has hit the rookie wall. Making the adjustment from College Hockey to the rigors of the OHL schedule has seemed to take a toll on Biggs as he has been sputtering since returning from his Gold Medal effort at the 2012/13 World Junior Tournament. Still has a more than respectable 44 points in 50 games which is great for a power forward but has only produced four points in his last seven after his scorching start to the season doesn't seem as impressive. Hopefully he can pick things back up and help keep the team rolling in Oshawa. Travis Watson

December 2012 – Tyler Biggs was one of the 27 American players named to the USA Preliminary roster for the upcoming 2013 World Junior Championships. Brendan Ross

November 2012 – Signed his three year entry level deal with Toronto and was assigned to the Oshawa Generals. He has been skating on the right side of OHL superstar Boone Jenner and has put 21 points on the board in 22 games. Oshawa general manager, Jeff Twohey recently discussed the chemistry between the two, the overall game Biggs plays and the way his play may project on the Leafs, on Sportsnet’s, ‘Hockey Central at Noon’. August 2012 – Biggs had a good showing at the USA Hockey National World Junior Development Camp, finishing second to in scoring in the scrimmages, with seven points in five games. He signed an entry-level contract with Toronto as well. Rich Dillon

February 2012 – An aggressive, abrasive winger still growing into his large frame, Biggs is known more for his physical play than scoring at this point. He lit the lamp nine times in 37 games in his debut season at Miami (OH). He has soft hands for a big man. Rich Dillon

 

Fantasy Outlook: D-

With shocking swiftness, the lumbering former first-rounder has become the longest of longshots to make it in the NHL.
