December 2016 – Fitzgerald was not drafted into the QMJHL nor the NHL but, as the saying goes, hard work pays off. The former-Halifax Mooseheads’ defender was a teammate of Timo Meier and after an invite to the Sharks’ development camp, signed a three-year deal with the team. His continued deveopment has been impressive and, during San Jose’s development and rookie camps, he was a standout defender, often paired with Jeremy Roy for an effective pairing with the puck.
Fitzgerald has decent size, skates well and his puck skills are solid as well. He was named captain of the Shawinigan Cataractes for the 2016-17 season and registered nine goals and 13 assists in 17 games before suffering an upper-body injury that will likely keep him out until January.
